No subscription: pay once, spend the credits within 12 months. Packs stack on top of any plan — the meter simply draws from your pack after the monthly quota.
Credits per call
A credit is one billed provider call, weighted by the API type it belongs to; most types cost 1 credit per call. The dollar column is an estimate on the Basic plan ($5 for 4,000 credits) — every larger plan costs less per call.

FAQ
We pay for the provider access ourselves — the Ahrefs API under our own subscription, third-party Similarweb-style datasets, the SERP engines, the index checker and the indexing queue — and resell the calls in small, credit-based plans that start at $5 a month. You get all the APIs in one place, under one key, without a corporate-level contract, a per-vendor minimum or an annual commitment. The providers' own API access is priced for enterprises: hundreds of dollars a month, often behind a sales call (published entry prices as of August 2026; check their sites for current figures). What's cheaper is the packaging and the commitment, never the data — every number is fetched from the provider named on it, and cached answers cost nothing.
A credit is one call we actually pay a data provider for, at the credits its API type costs (1 for most types — the
table above lists the exceptions). A domain lookup spends one credit per
field group it has to fetch fresh, so it depends on what you ask for:
fields=rating costs 1, fields=rating,traffic costs 3, and the default
rating,traffic,countries costs 4. Anything answered from our shared cache costs
zero — and popular domains are usually cached. Your /v1/usage
endpoint shows the running total in real time.
Monthly plan credits reset every month on the day you signed up (00:00 UTC) — your dashboard shows the date. Prepaid pack credits last 12 months — that's what packs are for.
Requests answer 429 quota_exceeded with a clear message; nothing silently degrades and nothing is billed as overage. Upgrade, add a pack, or wait for the reset.
Yes. Plans buy volume and rate, never data quality. The free tier reads the same providers the Scale tier does.
